Request for Seacoast NOW Volunteers for Chautauqua 2004
Every year, Seacoast NOW members volunteer at Chautuaqua, brought to Portsmouth by the NH Humanities Council. This is a great way to support the NH Humanities Council and enjoy an evening of educational entertainment as "History Comes Alive!"
Seacoast NOW typically enjoys volunteering on an evening when we can celebrate wonderful historical feminists. Volunteers arrive a little early for Chautauqua, help with ushering or parking, and then are welcome to relax and enjoy the show.
When: Wednesday, July 28 at 5:30. Where: Strawbery Banke, Portsmouth
The performers for July 28 are Nellie Bly and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. With music by Susie Burke and David Surrette.
Nellie Bly (1864-1922)
an enterprising journalist who exposed corruption and broke ground for women's professional roles, and who became an early celebrity journalist for her well-publicized exploits undercover in a mental hospital and her journey around the world in 72 days.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945)
who, as president (1933-1945), faced some of the biggest challenges in our history, the Great Depression and World War II, and stewarded a course that left our country stronger and more compassionate.
